On 07 Mar 07 at about 2000 hours, the Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters No.3 at New Mangalore (Karnataka) received a request from MV Hebei Ambition in position about 128 nautical miles West of New Mangalore for medical evacuation of one engine room cadet. The cadet was reported to have sustained an injury while operating grinding machine onboard

and required urgent medical assistance. 

On receipt of the information, the vessel was advised to approach New Mangalore harbour.  Meanwhile, Indian Coast Guard Ship Samar on patrol in the area was diverted for necessary assistance.  The ship reached the area at about 0600 hours on 08 Mar and effected R/V with MV

Hebei Ambition. The patient was transferred from the vessel to the shore using ship's helicopter and  subsequently handed over to the agent of the vessel for hospitalisation.The condition of the patient is reported to be stable.
