Indian Coast Guard launched its sixth Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel built by M/s Goa Shipyard Limited at Goa on 02 Jun 2007. The vessel named 'Samrat', was launched by Dr(Smt) Shushmita Dutt, wife of Shri Shekhar Dutt, SM, Defence Secretary, Government of India. The AOPV has an endurance of 20 days and a reach of 6500nm, the ship is capable of operating Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) besides Sea King and Chetak. For specific missions, the ship can carry two helicopters. The ship uses the latest technology for man-machine interface thus reducing the number of operators handling the machinery and equipment. The state of art Integrated Bridge System offers the facility to integrate Navigation System, Automatic Identification System, GMDSS, Voyage Data Recorder, Fire Detection and Alarm System, Machinery Control and Display system, Vessel Stability Monitoring System and Internal Communication System. The Infra Red Surveillance system to be installed onboard would enable ship’s crew to detect targets in the night that otherwise evade radar detection due to their small size or higher sea state. The Defence Secretary and the Director General Coast Guard addressed the gathering on the occasion. |
