1.   The 28th Indian Coast Guard Commanders' Conference was held at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi from 28 to 30 Oct 2009. The conference was inaugurated by Hon'ble Raksha Mantri Shri AK Antony. Spread over three days, the conference provided the Commanders' with an opportunity to introspect the operational preparedness of the service, realign operational philosophy with respect to the threat perception in the maritime domain, and rework existing policies pertaining to the Coast Guard Charter.

2.     Speaking at the Inaugural session, the Hon'ble Raksha Mantri Shri AK Antony, complimented all the Coast Guard personnel for displaying dedication, devotion and courage, whilst discharging their multifarious duties. The Hon'ble Raksha Mantri highlighted the importance of the 'Coastal Security' and the need for rapidly strengthening the Indian Coast Guard to meet the challenges faced by the country in the prevailing times of omni-present terrorism..

3.     The Director General Indian Coast Guard, Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, AVSM, highlighted the rapid progress made by the Coast Guard in the preceding year with respect to ship acquisition, induction of manpower and development of infrastructure.

4.     The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Nirmal Verma, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, and Shri Pradeep Kumar, the Defence Secretary, also interacted with Coast Guard Commanders' during the conference.

5.    The Hon'ble Raksha Mantri also interacted with the media after the inaugural session.
