1. I have just returned from A & N Region and Chennai. The scale of disaster post Tsunami of 26 Dec is immense. Relief operations by the ICG in India, Sri Lanka and Maldives are expected to be prolonged. ICG personnel have displayed sterling qualities of intiative courage and resilience in establishing communication links with far flung islands saving lives and providing relief to the suffering. Till to date the ICG has rescued /evacuated 890 people provided medical relief to 2350 and distributed 67 tons of supplies. The international rumours of extensive loss of life amonst aboriginal tribes of A & N Islands were proved wrong by the ICG on 30 Dec. All our air and surface units are deployed and will continue this humanitarian mission in the new year.
2. 2004 was a remarkable year for ICG operations including the first ever ICG-SLN joint exercise of 16 Dec off Colombo. 3. As we move into the New Year, my wife joins me in wishing the ICG family a Happy and Prosperous 2005. Jai Hind. |
