Inspector General Satya Prakash Sharma, a second batch officer of
Indian Coast Guard has assumed Command of Coast Guard Region (East)
on 29 Dec 10. He hails from New Delhi where he did his schooling
and thereafter completed M Phil in Space Physics from Delhi
University prior joining Coast Guard in 1980.
IG SP Sharma specializes in naval Communication
systems and is an alumunus of College of Defence Management,
Secunderabad. He has held various important operational and staff
appointments both afloat and ashore, noteworthy of which are command
of four Coast Guard ships, twice as Director Operations at Coast
Guard Headquarters prior taking over as Regional Commander Andaman
& Nicobar on promotion to the rank of Inspector General in Aug
2006. Prior to assuming the office of Commander, Coast Guard Region
(East), the Officer had the distinction of being the first Regional
Commander (North-West), which was established under his leadership
in Dec 09 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
IG SP Sharma has participated in various National and
International Conferences and Meetings on subjects of Search and
Rescue, Piracy and Armed Robbery against ships and Pollution
Response wherein beside contributing significantly had also
presented papers on these subjects. During his tenure as Director
Operations various bilateral and multilateral cooperative
arrangement, not only with the Coast Guards of the littoral States
but also in the Asia pacific region were initiated. This heralded a
new era of international cooperation among the Coast Guards in this
part of world.
The flag officer is recipient of Tatrakshak
Medal (Meritorious Service) and also the President Tatrakshak Medal
(Distinguished Service).
IG SP Sharma is married to Ila and has two
sons Varun and Kartikay. The flag officer is an avid golfer. |
