The Headquarters of Coast Guard Western Region is located at Mumbai. The region is commanded by Inspector General SPS Basra, YSM, PTM, TM. The entire coast line from Daman to Kanyakumari including the Union Territory of Lakshadweep comes under the operational and administrative control of the Commander, Coast Guard Region (West). There are 05 Coast Guard District Headquarters, 07 Coast Guard Stations, 01 Air Station and 02 Air Enclaves on the Western seaboard of India. | |

| Ops Paryavaran Suraksha 02/11 | |

MV Rak Carrier (Flag- Panama) sank, while at anchorage off Mumbai on 04 Aug 11 due to excessive flooding onboard. MV Rak Carrier was in possession of 340 T of fuel/ diesel oil onboard and considering probability of oil spill from the sunken vessel. “Ops Paryavaran Suraksha 02/11” was launched for effective mitigation of oil spill. Tar balls and emulsified / weathered oil was seen across Mumbai / Raigarh / coastline endangering marine life. Massive pollution response exercise was undertaken by Coast Guard Ships and aircrafts to counter the after effects and damage to environment. | |
| Community Interaction | |

Community interaction was organized in Tadadi fishing harbour, Kumta on 17 Aug 11 by ICGS Karwar. Representatives from Navy, Coastal Security Police and Fisheries department participated in the event along with Coast Guard. A total of 75 personnel comprising boat owners and fishermen participated in the event. During the community interaction, fishermen were enlightened about coastal security and intimated all contact no of various agencies involved in coastal security. The community interaction team demonstrated use of life jacket, life buoy to fishermen and discussed various methods/equipment used for rescue of fishermen/boat. Community interaction program along with distribution of Distress Alert Transmitters (DATS) to fishermen of Ratnagiri district was conducted by ICGS Ratnagiri. | |

| Inspector General SPS Basra YSM, PTM, TM, the Commander Coast Guard Region (West) visited ICGAS Daman on 18 & 19 Aug 2011 to preside over the valedictory function and passing out parade of 4th course of CPL entry pilots. These officers were awarded wings by the Commander, Coast Guard Region (West) during an impressive Passing Out Parade held on 19 Aug 11. | |
