            The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region is located at Port Blair. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General KC Pande, TM. The Region has a force level of one OPV, three FPVs, three IPVs, two Dornier aircraft and two Chetak helicopters in this region.

SEIZURE OF MOLLUSCS (SEA SHELLS)

               ICGS Aruna Asif Ali seized approx 1500 Kg of Molluscus (sea shells) which have a high value in international market, from poachers in northern group of Andaman Islands on 03 Jun 10.

INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE AND ILLICIT TRAFFICKING

           Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarter (A&N) organized an awareness drive by conducting a walkathon at Port Blair on 26 Jun. The walkathon was aimed to create awareness in the general public against drug abuse and illicit trafficking. No -9 Coast Guard District Headquarters (Andaman) Diglipur also organized a rally to create awareness in local populace towards harmful side effects of drug addiction.

COMMUNITY INTERACTION

             Community interaction was undertaken by CGS Hutbay for creating awareness among the fishing community of Harbinder Bay. The fishermen were briefed about safety and security behavior while operating at sea. All fishermen were appraised with national SAR toll free No “1554” and also advised to intimate any unusual activity at sea promptly to security agencies by utilizing toll free number “1093”.  A demonstration of life saving drill and survival technique at sea i.e life jackets, lifebuoys and sea survival drills were conducted during the interaction.

COMMUNITY INTERACTION WITH FISHERMEN  

COMCG(A&N) VISIT TO DIGLIPUR AND MAYABUNDER 

Inspector General KC Pande, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) accompanied by Mrs Jayashree Pande, President Tatrakshika (A&N) visited Mayabunder and Diglipur on 04 and 05 Jun 10. The objective of the visit was to assess progress of various projects pertaining to works in North and Middle Andaman. During the visit COMCG gave necessary directives and guidelines for early lease agreement of PMB fuel storage facility at Aerial Bay, Diglipur to Coast Guard and also reviewed progress of ongoing Pmt OTM married accommodation project. During the visit President Tatarakshika also planted sapling at DHQ-9 premises to commemorate World environment day 2010.                                  

VISIT TO KALPONG HYDRO POWER PLANT 

               Trekking cum educational visit to Kalpong Hydro Power Plant at Diglipur was organized by ICGS Kanaklata Barua on 14 Jun 2010. Demonstration of equipment was conducted by the staff of Hydro power plant.
