The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region is located at Port Blair. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General  SP Sharma, PTM, TM. The Coast Guard has a force level of one OPV, three FPVs, three IPVs, two Dornier aircraft and two Chetak helicopters in this region.

Apprehension of Srilankan Fishing Boat

 ICGS Akkadevi apprehended Sri Lankan boat St Antony along with 05 in number Srilankan crew with 500 kgs of Tuna and Shark fish on 11 Mar 09. The apprehended boat along with crew were handed over to local police at Port Blair.

Polrex –09 Off Port Blair: Sanrakshan

Two days Pollution response exercise was co-ordinated and conducted by Headquarters Coast Guard Region (A&N) on 27 Mar 09. The aim of the exercise was to mobilize the pollution response equipment, coordinate pollution response operation by active participation of various pollution response agencies and to validate NOS-DCP. A total of 04 CG units {PRT(A and N), CGAE(PB), Varad and C-140} and 04 resource agencies (PMB, DSS,PCB and IOC ) participated in the exercise. The exercise was conducted off Port Blair.

Anti-Poaching Operation Apprehension of 05 Srilankan Fishing Vessels

Anti poaching operations were conducted in Indian EEZ by ICGS Varad along with ICGS Gangadevi, ICGS Akkadevi and Dornier ex 745 squadron (CG) from 12 Mar – 14 Mar 09. 05 Srilankan fishing vessels were apprehended in Indian EEZ. All apprehended vessels along with crew were handed over to Central Crime Station,  A&N Police on 16 Mar 09.

Assistance to Scientists For Field Study: ICGS Bhikhaiji Cama

ICGS Bhikhaiji Cama embarked five scientists for research work at Narcondam Island and Barren Island on 25 Mar 09 and provided them with necessary support to reach these remote islands in Andaman Seas. Scientists were brought back to Port Blair on completion of the field study along with samples collected on 31 Mar 09.

Trekking at Barren Island: ICGS Bhikhaiji Cama

 

Barren Island is the only active volcano in India. A trekking activity was conducted for the ships company on this island. The team of 02 officer and 10 sailors trekked on the difficult terrain of the island for about 04 hours. The team went as close as possible to the crater of the volcano and witnessed closely the lava eruption. 

 

Fast Patrol Vessel Durgabai Deshmukh Adds Strength to Coast Guard In The Islands

Indian Coast Guard Ship Durgabai Deshmukh joined the Coast Guard Fleet in Andaman and Nicobar on 01 Apr 2009. The ship was formally welcomed by Inspector General SP Sharma, PTM, TM Commander Coast Guard Region (A & N).

Annual Function Coast Guard Public School Campbell Bay

Coast Guard Public School, Campell Bay celebrated its Annual Function on 23 Mar 2009. IG SP Sharma, PTM,TM Commander Coast Guard Region (Andaman and Nicobar) was the Chief Guest for the function. Mrs Ila Sharma, President, Coast Guard Wives Welfare Association (Andaman & Nicobar Region) gave away the prizes.
