While patrolling in area Kokari, Indian Coast Guard Ship Varad on 23 Oct 08 was directed by Administrative Authority to provide assistance to a vessel MV Royal Pisces adrift in position 07 Degree 34. 70 N 093 Degree 42.20 E. The vessel was adrift because of machinery breakdown i.e. CPP failure on main engine. Vessel reported that out of 04 CPP blades on her main engine propeller, one was malfunctioning which was affecting the starting of engine. The vessel was adrift for last 05 days . Two Engine room Sailors were immediately deputed by CG helicopter to provide assistance to the distressed ship. However the efforts of the sailors were futile due to pitch setting on the propeller blades were found disturbed and traces of metal particles were observed in CPP oil filter. It was finally decided by the Master of MV Royal Pisces that repair on CPP/main engineer will be carried out by PAC firm at harbour. ICGS Varad was tasked to tow the vessel to Port Blair. Despite poor weather and rough sea condition, MV Royal Pisces, a ship of 3972 tonnage and 94 Mtrs length, was successfully towed by ICGS Varad to Port Blair harbour. |
