The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region is located at Port Blair. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General  SP Sharma, PTM, TM. The Coast Guard has a force level of one OPV, two FPVs, three IPVs, two Dornier aircraft and two Chetak helicopters in this region.

Repatriation of Myanmarese Fishermen

Repatriation of approximately 300 Myanmarese fishermen/ poachers were carried out by three ICG Ships namely ICG Ships Vajra, Gangadevi and Akkadevi at  Yangoon. The ships sailed from Port Blair for the first phase of repatriation on 24 Nov 2008.

Ladies Night

A ladies night was organised on 19 Nov 08 at CGOM premises to acknowledge the contribution of the ladies in Indian Coast Guard . A cultural event comprising an array of entertaining events, games and music was the highlight of the evening.

Indian Coast Guard Participation in Bharat Nirman

The Indian Coast Guard stall for Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign at Diglipur North Andaman was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Bhupinder Singh PVSM, AVSM. During the five day campaign, Distress Alert Transmitters developed by ISRO, were distributed to fishermen of the district. The Dept of Fisheries and Fishery Survey of India also participated in the event.

Adventure Activity at DHQ-9

Trekking from Ariel Bay to the Barkeley point was conducted on 28 Nov 08. Officers and Enrolled Personnel of DHQ-9 passed the Durgapur Fish-Drying Site enroute and went through the thick forest cover after crossing the marshy shores and mangroves.

Donation to Orphanage

 

Indian Coast Guard in addition to their charter of duties keeps itself involved in activities that makes them associate with the society with a cause. The Tatrakshika visited the Social Rehabilitation Centre, Port Blair. The ladies interacted with the staff and children and donated food materials to the needy, as a small gesture to appreciate the good work they are doing.
