Silver Jubilee Celebration of Coast Guard Aviation |
|
Indian Coast Guard (ICG) constituted as an Armed Force on 01 Feb 1977 took to wings on 02 May 1982 with the commissioning of the first Coast Guard Air unit at Goa. With just two helicopters in 1982, the growth of the fledgling air arm has been exponential and today the ICG Aviation has 45 aircraft, two Air Stations, two Air Enclaves and number of Air squadrons.
The yeoman service by the Coast Guard Aviation has been recognised by the maritime community for their dedication and commitment in saving lives of seafarers, providing succour to marooned fishermen, combating marine pollution and effective monitoring of our vast Maritime Zones. In the recent past the air assets of this nascent air arm with sea air coordination have saved numerous lives at sea, apprehended poachers and have been at the forefront to provide aid to civil administration, during natural disasters like, cyclone and flood relief operations. Indian Coast Guard on numerous occasions has demonstrated its operational versatility while handling the relief operations during the disasters such as Tsunami, BHN fire, oil pollution response at sea due to collision and grounding of merchant vessels etc.
ICG Aviation in fulfilling our motto “WE PROTECT” has invoked a sense of safety and security amongst Indian, regional and international maritime fraternity. |
