The 26th Indian Coast Guard Commanders’ Conference was held at Coast Guard Headquarters from 19 Sep to 21 Sep 2007. The conference was
inaugurated by the Hon'ble Defence Minister Sri AK Antony on 19
Sep 2007. Vice Admiral RF Contractor, AVSM, NM gave a comprehensive
presentation on the state of operational readiness of the Coast Guard and
the future requirements of the Indian Coast Guard by way of additional
surface and air assets, infrastructural and increase in Manpower.
2. The Defence Secretary and other senior officials from the Ministry of Defence / MoD (Finance) were also present on the occasion. The Hon’ble Defence Minister addressed the Coast Guard Commanders and interacted with them at the Conference wherein he emphasized the need for the ICG to enhance and consolidate its overall capabilities in meeting the growing challenges in the Maritime Zones of India. Shri Vijay Singh, Defence Secretary also addressed the Coast Guard Commanders and thereafter interacted with them on operational, administrative, infrastructure and personnel issues related to the Coast Guard. 3. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sureesh Mehta, PVSM, AVSM, ADC addressed the CG Commanders on 21 Sep 07 wherein he highlighted the present maritime security scenario in our region and impressed upon greater synergy between the Indian Navy & Indian Coast Guard in operations, infrastructure development and training. 4. The Trophies for the "Best Coast Guard Unit", "Best SAR unit" and the "Best Maintained Unit" were awarded by Vice Admiral RF Contractor, AVSM, NM Director General, Indian Coast Guard to the Commanding Officers of "ICGS Samar", "ICGS H-186" and "ICGS Lakshmibai" respectively during this function. |
