The Coast Guard Investiture Ceremony 2007 was held at Coast Guard District Headquarters –4, at Kochi ON 02 Nov 07. Vice Admiral RF Contractor,AVSM, NM Director General Indian Coast Guard (DGICG) received the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri at the parade. Shri AK Antony inspected a 50-men ceremonial Guard of Honour in which the President’s Colours’ was also paraded. He later presented two President’s Tatrakshak Medals (PTM), one to Inspector General Rajendra Singh, TM for ‘Distinguished service’ and the other to Commandant Ganti Mahapatra Sreenivas, TM for ‘Gallantry’. Besides this, he also gave away four Tatrakshak Medals (TM) for ‘Gallantry’ and five TM for ‘Meritorious Service’ for the following Coast Guard personnel.
In his address, the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri said that the presence of Indian Coast Guard is a reassuring factor for those who venture into the sea in search of a livelihood. “The Indian Coast Guard has set high standards in intra-agency cooperation. The challenges offered by large scale search & rescue, anti-smuggling, anti-narcotics, anti-terrorism, pollution response as well as anti-poaching operations have been successfully countered by the Coast Guard by conducting joint operations with other agencies”, he said. Pointing out to the sensitivity of international security scenario, the Minister said the modernization and expansion of the Indian Coast Guard is the priority of the Government
The Defence Secretary, Shri Vijay Singh, VAdm SK Damle, AVSM, VSM, NM Flag Officer, Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, Senior Naval and Coast Guard Officers, civil dignitaries and families of the awardees, also attended the ceremony. |
