The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region is located at Port Blair. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General SP Sharma, PTM, TM. The Coast Guard has a force level of one OPV, three FPVs, three IPVs, two Dornier aircraft and two Chetak helicopters in this region. |

ESSAR ‘SAR’ Trophy to ICGS Varad |

The annual review meeting of the National Maritime Search and Rescue Board (NMSARB) was conducted at Chennai on 23 Apr 09. The chairman of NMSARB, Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, AVSM chaired the meeting. The ESSAR ‘SAR’ award for year 2008 was presented to ICGS Varad by CEO of ESSAR and the Coast Guard ‘SAR’ award for merchant men was presented to MV CSK fortune by the Chairman. |

A community interaction programme was conducted at Durgapur community hall on 29 Apr 09. The station staff apprised the fisher flock about safety of life at sea and advised fisher flock to be more vigilant at sea and report sighting of poachers to Coast Guard immediately on such sighting. |
