|
|
ICGS Bhikhaiji Cama visited Mayabunder 22 - 23 Jun 08. During the visit, the ship was tasked to undertake community interaction with local fisherman. This was undertaken in the Gram Panchayat office. About 50 fishermen from the local fishing community participated in the event. The Assistant Director (Fisheries), Mayabundar was also present. The ship’s team demonstrated the use of life saving devices viz., life jacket, life buoy, SART etc. Instruction on usage of the Distress Alert Transmitter (DAT), a prototype of which was handed over to a fisherman from Mayabundar, was also done. The fishermen were appraised on basic first aid and actions to be taken in case of fire injury, drowning and snake bite. Handouts containing important phone numbers of the Coast Guard were distributed. In the evening, the ship’s team played a football match with the fishermen in Pokka Dera, a fishing hamlet about four kms from Mayabundar town. During this match, the local players matched feet-to-feet with the ship’s players thus demonstrating belongingness and enthusiasm. The football match ended with mutual bonhomie between the ship’s players and the local fishermen. Thus, during the ship’s visit to Mayabundar, the ship’s team reposed the faith and trust of the local fishermen on the Coast Guard. |
