The Coast Guard has a force level of one OPV, two FPVs, three IPVs, two Dornier aircraft and two Chetak helicopters in this region. |

Indian Coast Guard ship Varad and Bhikhaiji cama sailed from Port Blair on 20 Nov 08 for Overseas Deployment to Singapore, Manila (Philippines) and Malaysia for Maritime Bilateral Co-operation with the maritime Law Enforcement Agencies. |

At a function held at the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters, the Chief Secretary Shri Vivek Rae, IAS handed over twenty two distress alert transmitters free of cost provided by Coast Guard to fishermen belonging to Port Blair and south Andaman. |

On 27 Dec 08 at 1005 hours, Coast Guard Dornier aircraft sighted a boat with about 100 people on board waving for help. On receipt of this information from aircraft, ICGS Varad rescued six critically ill survivors by deploying helicopter and brought them on board where immediate medical aid was provided by the ship’s medical officer. Ship rescued total 88 personal and took the boat under tow after deflooding and making it seaworthy. Mean while landing party of ICGS Bhikhaiji Cama rescued 11 survivors from the beach. |

All Officers, Enrolled Personnel and Civilian Staff of District Headquarters No. 9 (Diglipur) and children of local school at Diglipur actively participated in the event. |
