The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region is located at Port Blair. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General  SP Sharma, TM. The Coast Guard has a force level of one OPV, two FPVs, three IPVs, one Dornier aircraft and two Chetak helicopters in this region.

Eye on Mid Sea Bunkering

Indian Coast Guard is entrusted with protecting vast EEZ, which is rich in various natural as well as marine resources. Indian Government’s endeavour is to promote fishing in A&N Region in large scale by permitting operation of chartered foreign fishing vessels for development of fishing industry at par with international standards. Indian Coast Guard Ship Lakshmi Bai in the month of August 2008 monitored mid sea transfer of catch from Indian chartered vessel to mother vessel MV Srinakoran-19  ex-Thailand. Constant vigil was kept by  Indian Coast Guard Ships to prevent illegal exploitation of marine resource and mineral wealth.

Community Interaction Programme at Mayabunder

A Community interaction programme was conducted in Lucknow village, at  Mayabunder Panchayat Hall on 23 Aug 08. There were 75 people who actively took part in the programme. Most of the participants were of Karen community. DHQ-9 staff conducted the interaction programme which included lecture and demonstrations on Disaster Management, Life Saving Equipment and Safety Measures for fishermen at sea. During this occasion, wide publicity regarding career prospects available in Coast Guard was also disseminated. Important and useful information such as toll free SAR number and various SAR measures for the fishermen’s safety at sea were also covered during the program.

 

Community Interaction at Mayabunder

Independence Day Celebration

Coast Guard District Headquarters, No.9 (Diglipur) conducted an essay and  painting competition on topic “Role of Indian Coast Guard” for the school children, on 14 Aug 08 on the eve of the Independence Day. 84 children from nine local schools actively took part in these events. Prizes for the first three positions were distributed by the District Commander on 19 Aug 08.

Adventure Activity DHQ-9

An adventure activity consist of trekking and climbing of a hill near Shibpur was conducted on 27 Aug 08. All Officers and Sailors of District Headquarters No. 9 (Diglipur) participated in this activity. The event started from Keralapuram at 0530 hrs and the team trekked through the inhospitable hilly terrain, exploring and making way through the thick forest. This activity was organised to familiarise the personnel about the terrain around the local area and also to sanitise and ensure that these sites are not used for any illegal activities.

Inauguration of Cafeteria

On 05 Aug 08, with combined efforts of ICGS Akka Devi and ICGS Bhikhaiji Cama, a cafeteria named “Munching Stop” was inaugurated in TRV premises adjacent to “Sanchita” shop.
