COMMISSIONING OF INDIAN COAST GUARD STATION AT MURUD

Indian Coast Guard Station Murud-Janjira was commissioned by Vice Admiral Anil Chopra, AVSM, Director General Indian Coast Guard on 30 Sep 10. The new ICG station is functioning under the operational command of the Commander Coast Guard (West). Commandant (JG) M Vijay Kumar is appointed as the Commanding Officer of ICGS Murud-Janjira.

The establishment of station Murud-Janjira is yet another milestone for the Indian Coast Guard in augmenting its prowess and presence along the Maharashtra Coast.

The Station with its jurisdiction in the Raigad district encompassing the entire coast of Maharashtra, will exercise operational control over CG units being deployed from Murud-Janjira. Two Interceptor Boats (Fast Attack Crafts) and 02 Interceptor Craft will be based at this station to effectively sanitise the area from sea-based threats and prevent nefarious activities along the porous coast-line of Maharashtra.

The station will also have an experienced and highly professional Rapid Action Team to thwart any infiltration within its area of jurisdiction. The station will coordinate with various law enforcement agencies like the Maritime Police, Fisheries, Customs and State administration to counter any threats from subversive elements. Whilst the Station will act as a hub in the coastal security network, it will also play the important role of intelligence gathering and sharing with other stake holders, thus enabling effective security of the coastline thereby living up to the Coast Guard motto – “WE PROTECT”.
